Vandals damage Chapel of San Giuseppe in Nozarego on its feast day.

Country: Italy

Date of incident: March 19, 2026

Vandals damaged the chapel of San Giuseppe in Nozarego, breaking two front windows in an act of deliberate destruction on the chapel's dedication day.

Vandalism was reported at the chapel of San Giuseppe in Nozarego, Santa Margherita Ligure, on 19 March 2026, the feast day of the saint to whom the chapel is dedicated. The incident also coincides with Father’s Day in Italy.

The two windows on the façade of the chapel were damaged, with both panes broken after repeated forceful blows, possibly using a hard tool.

A local resident with an emotional connection to the chapel, Carlo Bernasconi, described the scene, saying: “It hurts to see a small church that does not bother anyone and that has always been part of this landscape reduced like this. To break a glass of that thickness you have to insist, and the fact that there are also railings and internal protections makes it clear that it doesn't make much sense, except to do damage. Moreover, there is nothing inside to steal”.
