Consecrated Hosts Stolen and Scattered in Church of Sant’Anna in Palizzi

Country: Italy

Date of incident: April 6, 2026

Consecrated hosts were removed from the tabernacle and scattered inside the Church of Sant’Anna in Palizzi on April 6. The parish priest reported the incident to authorities, and a Mass of reparation was announced.

A sacrilegious act was reported at the Church of Sant’Anna in Palizzi Superiore, in the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria, where unknown individuals removed consecrated hosts from the tabernacle and dispersed them inside the church. The incident, which occurred on April 6, 2026, between approximately 11:00 and 17:00, was publicly denounced by parish priest Mons. Leone Stelitano, who immediately informed the authorities.

The gravity of the act prompted the announcement of a Mass of reparation scheduled for April 8

The Deputy Mayor strongly condemned the incident, stating: “A gesture like that of deconsecrating the Eucharist is not just a provocation: it is a slap in the face to the sense of the sacred. It transforms what for many is a source of faith and respect into an act of gratuitous contempt, almost a desecration that leaves behind bitterness and indignation"

The episode occurred less than two months after a disturbing discovery at the Palizzi cemetery on February 15, where disemboweled animals and objects arranged in symbolic patterns raised suspicions of a possible esoteric ritual. Authorities have not confirmed any connection between the two incidents, but their proximity in time has heightened concern among residents.
