Statue of Padre Pio Decapitated Inside San Benedetto Abbey in Frosinone

A statue of Padre Pio was found decapitated inside the Abbey Church of San Benedetto in Frosinone. Police confirmed the damage after responding to a report and have launched an investigation to identify those responsible.

On the late morning of April 10, police responded to a report of vandalism at the Chiesa Abbaziale di San Benedetto, located in Piazza della Libertà in Frosinone.

Police arrived at the scene and confirmed that a statue of Padre Pio, positioned just inside the entrance on the right-hand side, had been deliberately damaged with its head being cut off. The head of the saint’s statue was found placed on a raised surface beside the remaining body of the figure.

The next eveing, April 11, a second related incident occurred in the same province. Unknown individuals entered the Church of Santo Stefano in Largo Ignazio Danti in Frosinone. The perpetrators threw a statue of the Madonna to the ground and stole a gold plated necklace, a silver rosary, and a brass cross from it. The damage was discovered the following morning by the parish priest upon opening the church, who alerted the Carabinieri of Alatri. Investigators are currently reviewing CCTV footage to identify those responsible.
