Suspected Arson at Arnsberg’s Church of Our Lady Amid Rising Vandalism Incidents
Police in Arnsberg are investigating a suspected case of arson after burn marks were discovered inside the Church of Our Lady (Liebfrauenkirche). Emergency services were alerted on Tuesday evening when smoke was noticed inside the building. The incident comes amid a growing number of vandalism and damage cases reported at the same church.
On the evening of 14 April, emergency services responded to reports of smoke inside the Church of Our Lady in Arnsberg. When firefighters arrived, the fires had already extinguished themselves, but investigations revealed burn damage in two distinct areas inside the church.
A pile of ash was found beneath a birch cross, and additional burn marks were discovered on a prayer bench in front of a candle table. Police have since confirmed that investigations are being conducted on suspicion of arson.
Local reporting indicates that cases of vandalism and fire-related damage have been increasing at the Church of Our Lady, raising concerns within the congregation about repeated incidents affecting the building.
