Severe vandalism and theft at the Church of the Four Holy Evangelists in Vienna
On the afternoon of 25 March 2026, the Church of the Four Holy Evangelists in Vienna-Oberbaumgarten was targeted in a serious act of vandalism and theft. The interior was extensively damaged and two bronze sculptures of saints were stolen.
On 25 March 2026, between approximately 13:00 and 17:00, the Church of the Four Holy Evangelists in Vienna’s 14th district was subjected to a major act of vandalism. According to current findings, an as yet unidentified individual took advantage of this and entered the building, causing extensive destruction inside.
Numerous objects were damaged or scattered throughout the interior, including religious materials, information stands and liturgical items. Parts of the furnishings were overturned, display cases were opened and their contents removed and spread across the church. Particularly serious was the theft of two bronze sculptures depicting Evangelists. Additional damage within the church further highlighted the severity of the incident.
The destruction was discovered at around 17:00 by a staff member, who immediately reported the matter to the police. An official complaint has been filed on suspicion of aggravated criminal damage and aggravated theft.
