Arson Investigation Launched After Fires Inside Disused Church in Warrington
Police in Cheshire have launched an arson investigation after two fires were discovered inside the disused Church of the Resurrection in Fearnhead, Warrington, on 5 May 2026.
On 5 May 2026 at approximately 16:50, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service received reports of a fire inside the disused Church of the Resurrection in Fearnhead, Warrington (UK). Two fire engines were deployed from local stations to the former place of worship on St Bridget’s Close. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish two small fires inside the building. A high-pressure ventilation fan was also used to clear smoke from the structure.
A fire service spokesperson stated: “Cheshire Police has been notified as it is suspected to have been a deliberate ignition.”
Cheshire Police confirmed that it has opened an arson investigation following a referral from the fire service. At present, no arrests have been made.
