Country: Italy

Date of incident: April 14, 2026

A statue of the Madonna di Lourdes has been decapitated inside a votive niche in Via Madonna delle Rose, near Frosinone railway station, marking the fourth attack on religious statues in just a few days.

A new act of vandalism has struck Frosinone, where the statue of the Madonna di Lourdes was found decapitated inside a votive niche in Via Madonna delle Rose, close to the city’s railway station. The statue’s head had been severed and thrown to the ground, adding to a growing series of similar attacks targeting sacred images across the area.

According to investigators, this is the fourth such incident in a short period, following earlier cases involving the statue of Padre Pio inside the Church of San Benedetto and other religious sites in nearby towns. Carabinieri are currently analysing surveillance footage, with officers noting possible similarities in method with previous episodes.

The mayor of Frosinone, Riccardo Mastrangeli, condemned the series of attacks, describing them as “a sequence of episodes that we cannot ignore,” and stressing the importance of protecting shared community values and places of worship.
