Repeated Desecration of Serbian Orthodox Church of St. George in Tuzla

Country: Bosnia and Herzegovina

Date of incident: May 19, 2026

The Serbian Orthodox Church of the Holy Great Martyr George in Tuzla has been vandalised once again, with forced entry and objects inside the church scattered.

The Serbian Orthodox Church of the Holy Great Martyr George, located in the Serbian Orthodox cemetery in Tuzla, has been desecrated again.

Unknown individuals broke the church doors to gain entry and damaged the interior, scattering objects inside the building.

Community representatives have highlighted that similar incidents affecting Orthodox religious sites have also been reported in the city in recent years. These include cases such as the Cathedral Church of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God, where last year the relics of the saint Blessed Matrona of Moscow were desecrated.

Đorđe Radanović, from the Committee for the Protection of the Rights of Serbs in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, also commented on the situation, saying: “And now again in Tuzla, which they declared a multicultural city.”

Authorities have not released further information at this stage.
