Deliberate Arson Devastates Protestant Parish Hall in Gladbeck

Country: Germany

Date of incident: May 12, 2026

Police have confirmed that a fire which broke out at the parish hall of the Protestant Petrusgemeinde in Gladbeck-Brauck was deliberately set.

A Lutheran community centre in Gladbeck-Brauck has been left heavily damaged after a fire that police believe was deliberately set. The blaze broke out at around 5:00 a.m. on 12 May 2026 at the parish hall of the Protestant Petrusgemeinde.

A massive blaze engulfed parts of the building, particularly a storage room containing technical equipment and areas used by the children’s and youth club. The structure suffered extensive destruction, with several sections and rooms reportedly completely destroyed.

A police spokeswoman confirmed the severity of the devastation, stating that the financial loss is estimated at approximately €600,000. Fire crews were deployed for around three hours to contain the flames and prevent them from spreading further. Fire doors are believed to have stopped the fire from reaching additional areas of the centre.

For the parish community, the aftermath has been described as a scene of shock, with the once-active community space now partially lying in ruins.

Police in the Recklinghausen district are continuing their investigation and are appealing for witnesses who may have observed suspicious activity in the area.
