Church in Hanau Targeted Again with Airsoft or Slingshot Projectiles
Several windows of the Holy Spirit Church in Hanau were damaged in a second attack within a month, with police suspecting the use of an airsoft gun or slingshot.
Police in Hanau, Germany, are investigating a new act of vandalism against the Holy Spirit Church after several decorative windows were damaged, causing an estimated €6,000 in losses.
According to investigators, the church's ornamental glazing may have been targeted with a slingshot or an airsoft gun. The damage was reported on 15 June, and authorities are now searching for witnesses.
The incident is particularly concerning because it follows a recent attack on the same church. "Part of the investigation is now also the question of whether the crime is related to a similar incident that also occurred there on May 17, 2026," police spokeswoman Claudia Benneckenstein reported. During that earlier incident, several windows of a side building were struck while around 200 worshippers were attending a church service. Flying glass fragments caused alarm and one person was reportedly hit. Police recovered steel and plastic pellets at the scene, suggesting the use of a slingshot or airsoft weapon.
