Christ Figures Stolen from Roadside Crosses in Wrocław

Police are investigating the theft of at least two Christ figures from roadside crosses in Wrocław.

Authorities in Wrocław, are investigating the theft of at least two figures of the crucified Christ from roadside crosses in the city's Stabłowice district. The first theft was discovered at a cross located at the intersection of Jeleniogórska, Stabłowicka and Starogajowa streets. Shortly afterwards, residents reported that a second Christ figure had also disappeared from another cross on Jeleniogórska Street, a few hundred metres away.

The Archdiocese of Wrocław condemned the thefts and urged the faithful to pray both for the return of the statues and for the conversion of the perpetrators. Police inquiries are ongoing, and no arrests have been reported.

"This cross, renovated and consecrated in 2023, was a place of daily prayer for many residents, a moment of reflection and a visible sign of God's presence in the midst of our daily affairs" - reads the statement of the Archdiocese of Wrocław posted on Facebook. Furthermore, the Curia stated, "that is why any desecration or act of vandalism directed against sacred symbols affects not only the physical object but also the religious sentiments of many of the faithful. In this situation, we especially need mutual support, unity, and a peaceful witness to our faith."
