London's Hyde Park: Knifeman threatened to stab Christian preacher at Speakers' Corner

Country: United Kingdom

Date of incident: May 25, 2025

A Sudanese man was convicted of knife-related crime against a Christian preacher at Hyde Park's Speaker's Corner.

On Sunday May 25, a man approached and threatened Christian preacher, David Ayettey, with a knife. Ayettey was atop a ladder preaching in the historic Speakers' Corner in London's Hyde Park when the man, Mohammed, with whom Ayettey had a prior "minor incident", approached him.

A brief exchange of words seemed to provoke a behavioural change in Mohammed after he asked Ayettey: "What would you like to happen in my life?" To which Ayettey answered: "I would like to have the Lord in your life." Reportedly, his "demanour" became "very angry" as he attempted to pull Ayettey down from the ladder, according to prosecutor Nicholas Mesure. Following this initial interaction, Ayettey attempted to continue preaching, but Mohammed reappeared with a knife, reportedly saying: "I am going to stab you." Following the incident, Mohammed was arrested by police and declined to answer any questions.

In November 2025, Mohammed was found guilty of the knife-related crime. According to reports, the Sudanese migrant has had prior criminal convictions.
