On 29 June 2026, firefighters responded to reports of smoke inside St. Marien Church in Freudenberg. Upon entering the church, emergency services discovered a wooden bench burning in the entrance area of the building. The fire was extinguished and removed from the church. According to reports, responders found the church entrance to be vandalised after discovering flour and raw eggs spread across the floor, while leaflets that had been available near the entrance were scattered around the area.
The circumstances and motive behind the act remained unclear at the time of reporting and police opened an investigation.
