In June 2026, Ahmed Yetrib, a teacher of Catholic religion in Charleroi reported receiving threats on social media where he regularly publishes content relating to his conversion to the Catholic faith. Born into a Muslim family, Yetrib converted to Catholicism and was baptised in 2018. He has since spoken publicly about his religious journey and regularly publishes content discussing Christianity and Islam on social media platforms.
According to reports, the threats began after some students discovered his TikTok account, leading to harassment and threats directed at Yetrib in connection with his religious beliefs and conversion. Yetrib stated that he had "never been so worried" and expressed concern about the situation. However, the difficulties surrounding his conversion did not begin with these threats, but when receiving Baptism in 2018, when he experienced rejection from his family who broke all contact with him.
The case has prompted discussion regarding freedom of conscience and the right to change one's religion. According to the reports, Yetrib's experience reflects a broader challenge that some converts face when converting from Islam to Christianity, especially in relation to social discrimination and family exclusion.
