Church vandalised and attempted desecration in Ca' Cappellino
Reported on 7 July, unknown perpetrators vandalised the church in Ca' Cappellino, Porto Viro, causing extensive damage to liturgical furnishings and attempting to force open the tabernacle. Nothing was stolen, but the vandalism left the church damaged. The attack caused shock among the parish community and is under police investigation.
As reported in 7 July 2026, unknown perpetrators entered the church in Ca' Cappellino, a hamlet of Porto Viro, and committed acts of vandalism and attempted desecration. According to the reports, perpetrators attempted to force open the tabernacle but were unsuccessful. They damaged further parish property including the church windows and various unamed religious objects.
Nothing was stolen, but the damage caused the church and in particular to the tabernacle, the place where the Eucharist is reserved, caused distress among parishioners and residents of the small community, where the church serves as an important place of worship and community life.
Police attended the scene and opened an investigation to identify those responsible using church survellance footage. At the time of reporting, no suspects had been identified.
