Saint-Pancrace Chapel targeted in act of vandalism and attempted arson

On 3 July, Saint-Pancrace Chapel in La Palme was targeted in an attempted arson attack accompanied by acts of vandalism. Although the fire did not spread to the historic chapel, the incident caused damage to the place of worship.

On 3 July 2026, the Saint-Pancrace Chapel in La Palme was found damaged following an attempted arson attack. According to reports, unknown perpetrators set a fire near the chapel and committed acts of vandalism. The doors entrance doors were found to be on fire by a witness who was able to extinguish the flames. Furthermore, graffiti was found to cover the walls and the door frame of the chapel, and a pane of glass had been smashed inwards.

Witnesses said they were shocked by the incident, and thankful that someone was there to intervene, preventing more extensive damage to the chapel.

The gendarmerie were alerted and came to investigate the scene. No suspects had been arrested at the time of reporting.
