Attempted arson damages entrance to church in Kielce
An unknown person attempted to set fire to the side entrance of St. Joseph the Worker Church in Kielce, Poland during the night of 3 to 4 August, 2026. A burning package was placed under the church doors, partially charring the side entrance, before the fire was discovered and extinguished. Reports describe the incident as a "sad experience" for the whole parish community.
During the night of 3 to 4 August 2026, an unknown person placed and ignited a burning package beneath the side entrance door of St. Joseph the Worker Church in Kielce. According to the reports, the fire was fortunately noticed by a nearby resident and extinguished using extinguishers from the parish house and nearby vehicles before it could spread to the church building. However, the wooden entrance doors were partially charred.
According to the parish priest, Fr. Karol Zegan, the fire was deliberately set and was not an accident, stating, "The motives for such actions are also somewhat troubling, and difficult to explain." The incident was also described as a 'sad experience' for the parish.
Police have opened an investigation to determine circumstances and identities of the perpetrators.
