Church in Haar is attacked during slew of arson attempts
As reported on 15 September, there have been five serious cases of attempted arson in Munich, where unknown individuals have thrown fireworks into several buildings, including the Church of St. Boniface, in Haar, wherein children were being blessed at the time of the incident. Police are now investigating potential suspects.
The reports state that the unidentified perpetrators had thrown fireworks, also known as a Bengalo, into several buildings in the city of Haar, near Munich, most notably in the Church of St. Boniface in which a service was ongoing on 14 September. There was no major damage caused by the fire, and police are investigating for attempted serious arson in five cases, which are believed to be related.
The unknown perpetrators also threw a Bengalo, known for its intense and dangerous pyrotechnic flare, into the entrance of the church. According to the report, "Among other things, the church was attacked, in which first graders were blessed." Participants at the blessing noticed smoke coming from the Bengalo, and threw it into the lake near where the church lies.
The police have assessed the damage caused to the buildng, and are now investigating the potential suspects.
