Spain: Granada Archdiocese Warns of Eucharistic Desecration Ahead of Halloween

Country: Spain

Date of incident: October 26, 2026

The Catholic Archdiocese of Granada urged parishes to strengthen security ahead of Halloween following a reported attempt to desecrate the Blessed Sacrament. Priests were advised not to leave consecrated hosts in the tabernacles of churches they cannot visit frequently, after the archdiocese relayed a police warning.

In a circular dated 26 October 2026, the Archdiocese of Granada called on priests to take additional precautions against desecration and theft from tabernacles.

According to Xataka, which quoted the circular, the archdiocese stated: “There has been some attempt to profane the Blessed Sacrament.” The letter said police had advised vigilance because such acts recur around Halloween and are sometimes promoted by Satanic groups.

The archdiocese asked priests to exercise particular care in places of worship. Its specific recommendation was not to leave the Blessed Sacrament in the tabernacles of parishes that priests do not attend frequently.

The instructions focused on protecting the Eucharist and preventing further incidents during the days surrounding Halloween.
