On 21 October, an unknown perpetrator stole the tabernacle and contained consecrated hosts from the chapel of the Nuestra Señora de la Asunción parish center in Madrid. The theft occurred during children catechsim classes and without notice from parents or the parish vicar.

A priest at the parish, Orlando Mateos, discovered the disappearance when a group of children went into the chapel to pray, and searched for the abandoned tabernacle after it was found missing.
