Constant Vandalism in Sicilian Church

Country: Italy

Date of incident: May 25, 2018

On May 25th, unknown persons entered the Chiesa Gesù Amore Misericordioso church in Canicattì, causing damage, breaking furniture, and staining the building with paint. Reports called this the "umpteenth time" the church had been vandalized because of repeated incidents.

The perpetrators forced the locks of the entrance of the church and destroyed everything they found in their path. Different valuable materials for the community were destroyed, as well as some of the games and activites for the children.

Along with the broken glass and doors torn from their hinges, the perpetrators left the floor and walls smeared with paint.

The parish priest Father Vincent Licata said he was disheartened and horrified by the repeated vandalism.
