Church Defenders Attacked by Pro-Abortion Demonstrators

On the 28 of November 2020, during the demonstration of pro-abortion groups in Cracow, a direct attack was made on a group of members of the Self- Defense of the Faithful organization of Lesser Poland. They had decided to protect the local churches from pro-abortion demonstrators who may want to stick posters on the churches, which was attempted, or otherwise harm the churches. Around 14:00, those defending the churches were violently attacked with pepper spray and other objects.
Most of those who were attacked wanted to remain anonymous as they were college students and could face repression should their identity become known by left-wing authorities at the universities. However, one of the defenders, Wojciech Grzelak, was willing to relate parts of the incident, which were recorded by Polonia Christiana.
“Two people entered between me and the rest of the group from behind my back. One of them was carrying a large cello case on her back, and the other, with a black and red "arafatka" on her face, was wearing a backpack with a patch with red and black elements. Unfortunately, neither me nor others have been able to identify her. Right behind the chapel of St. Gertrude, at the intersection with Święty Sebastian Street, we passed the traffic policeman who was directing the traffic. I noticed that the second of the two people in front of me had a large red lightning bolt on the back of their jacket, so I bypassed them so they wouldn't separate me from the rest of my party. Out of the corner of my eye I saw that the person in the arafatka was wearing ski goggles. I felt something was wrong and then everything happened very fast."
"Again, two people overtook me, one of them was definitely a person in a machine gun who was taking something out of his pocket on the run. Then it turned out that it was a telescopic truncheon. At the same moment, one of my friends, who was also behind me, alerted the group with a scream, he overtook me and tried to catch up with this person. But the person in the arafatka with the truncheon, who was still holding a small object in his other hand, shot a stream of gas in the face of one of his colleagues. There was a frenzy, people started screaming, and more people ran out from behind my back, of which at least one more gasped people with white ribbons. ed.]. In response, one of ours self-defense used gas on a person with a case on his back and hit him in the face with a jet."
“When I finally realized what was happening, I ran to the next lawn and started filming the incident. At that time, the only attacking person - the one in the arafatka - tried to hit a friend, who was also filming, with the truncheon. Then the others gathered around the "cellist" who sat on the bench next to him and tried to cope with the effects of the gas. Interestingly, the others were not in a hurry to run away, even though the policeman I was talking about was visible in sight. When my colleagues called the police, I ran several dozen meters to the traffic policeman. When I talked to him and asked for support, she literally walked right next to us in the direction of St. Sebastian, the person in the arafatka, and the rest of the attackers, as if nothing had happened, passed us through the Planty back towards the main march. Despite this, that I was literally pointing the finger at the people who had attacked us a moment ago, he replied that "he has to go now, because his working time is just about to end". We waited half an hour for the patrol to arrive. When he finally got to us, we showed the tapes of our phones and reported the assault. The policemen wrote us down, instructed us on the right to self-defense and left, promising to look for these people. "
