Driver of Pro-Life Van is Physically Attacked

Country: Poland

Date of incident: January 28, 2022

The driver of a van that displayed pro-life slogans and images was attacked in Warsaw and the incident was recorded on video. A man threw an object at the vehicle as it stopped by a red light, and when the driver opened the door, he tried to pull him outside and hit him twice, and then he ran away.

The assault is the latest in a series of attacks on such vehicles, which feature graphic images of dead foetuses and are driven around Polish cities by a pro-life NGO. Some have previously been set on fire.

The driver has been identified as a man called Jan, who said that he would pass the recordings to the police for identification. The NGO he works for has also issued a public appeal to identify the assailant.

There have been at least five cases of such vans being set on fire, because of their conservative and pro-life slogans. The NGO Fundacja Pro also claimed that another of its workers, Dawid, was “hit with heavy chains” while sitting in a similar van in November 2021.

“Despite these attacks, it is our duty to preach the truth,” said Mariusz Dzierżawski from the foundation’s board. “The bandits who support abortion are also ready to attack those who have already been born.”
