Santiago Cathedral Defaced with Graffiti

The Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela is an internationally renowned place of pilgrimage. On May 20, a graffiti displaying a penis was smeared on the cathedral’s west façade, which then got covered with a tarpaulin for cleaning purposes.
The archbishop emeritus and apostolic administrator of Santiago de Compostela, Julián Barrio, has expressed his displease at the graffiti during last weekend's celebrations of the Ascension in the Galician capital. He said that "cultural heritage must be taken care of very carefully and this is everyone's responsibility".
