Vandalism in Seine-Maritime

Country: France

Date of incident: June 15, 2024

Around 15th June, the church of Notre-Dame-du-Parc near Dieppe was vandalised. The door leading to the bell tower was completely destroyed with a sledge hammer. The damage is expected to cost around 2000 EUR.

Claudine Malvaut, the mayor: "It’s sad. It was a resident who was going to the cemetery who reported the facts to me. Obviously, it was destroyed with an ax or a sledgehammer. This is only an estimate because we are still waiting for the estimate from the expert. It’s a place where there is nothing to steal. There is just a ladder which gives access to the bell tower, it is a place adjacent to the church but separated from the main structure. There are no witnesses and then you have to want it. Our church is not in the center of the village, you have to take a small path that leads away to get there. You really have to want to break things to do it. In a small village like ours, we don’t think that this kind of thing can happen, it makes you angry."
