Vandalism in Vilstrup: Organ severely damaged

Country: Denmark

Date of incident: June 22, 2024

On 22nd June, unknown perpetrators damaged the organ of a church in Vilstrup. The organ is no longer functional and the damage is estimated to be around 100,000 krone. Keys were stuck, and there was a bottle of beer next to it. This is not the first time that an incident had happened in this church. In January, 58 designer chairs worth 174,000 krone were stolen.

Knud Jansford, the organist, who suspects visitors: "I think they were having a lot of fun. All the switches were on, so you can make a hell of a noise. It's easy to find it because it's at the front. I suspect they were sitting there and hammering away wildly on the keyboard. Four of the pull rods of four keys have come off and need to be put back in. I can't do that myself because I can't get close enough. The worst thing would be if something were to break, then it would be much more expensive. Because if you have to take a device like that apart, it takes longer."

Ole Daugaard, the church warden: "I think it has hit us hard. We don't want any more trouble."
