Theft of consecrated hosts in Porto Recanati

Country: Italy

Date of incident: August 5, 2024

On the evening of August 5, unknown persons entered the church of the Most Precious Blood in Porto Recanati and, after forcing the tabernacle, took the hosts that had already been consecrated and were kept inside. During their escape, the thieves abandoned a chalice on the street. The parish priest alerted the police. Nothing else was stolen from the church.

The local catholic community is shocked. Bishop Marconi will celebrate a mass of reparation for the sacrilegious theft: "We feel great pain when we learn of the offence against the Eucharist. It is not an offence against a piece of bread, but against Him whom we love."

The police are investigating for theft, but do not exclude a potential satanic background, since the chalice was left on the street, while the consecrated hosts have not been found.
