"Are you a Christian?" Three Christians assaulted and robbed by gang

Country: France

Date of incident: August 6, 2023

On Sunday 6 August, a group of friends were attacked by six people in the Vieux-Port, in the 1st arrondissement of Marseille. The attackers asked them if they were Christians and stole their crosses.

One of the six attackers even sexually assaulted a member of the group.

Three of the group were parliamentary attachés to the National Assembly. Lukas Goslini, who works as a parliamentary attaché for the National Rally, said: "A group of six people threatened us when they saw my Christian medallions. They asked me about my religion and, after confirming that I was a Christian, they beat me and stole my baptismal chain. These incidents are unacceptable in France's second city, where one should be able to feel safe, especially around tourist sites".

Contacted by Valeurs actuelles, Mr Goslini described men of "North African type", wearing tracksuits and trainers, with a heavy accent.

The attack on the RN staff highlights two major problematic trends in France: growing insecurity on the streets of French cities and towns, and a high level of anti-Christian attacks.
