Homeschooling Parents Portrayed as Sectarian Fundamentalists by Spiegel TV
Homeschooling family experiences negative stereotyping by Spiegel TV documentary: “We were not only a little disappointed and upset when we saw the outcome, which offends our Christian convictions and does not give unbiased information about the subject matter. My wife is called the 'chief inquisitor'. The reporter suggests that our children are victims, socially isolated children, controlled by their stubborn fundamental-Christian parents."
In December 2012, German Spiegel TV aired a 6-minute documentary of a German family which had moved to Austria in order to home-school their four children aged 6-12, due to the fact that home-schooling is illegal in Germany. “We were contacted by a German journalist from Spiegel-TV who said we would like to make a report about a homeschooling family to show how this works and how the children are being instructed,” says the father of the family. He adds that he expected the documentary “to be a neutral report so that the TV viewer could make up his own mind.” The family agreed to the filming in order to support the German Pro-Homeschooling-Movement. “We were not only a little disappointed and upset when we saw the outcome, which offends our Christian convictions and does not give unbiased information about the subject matter. My wife is called the 'chief inquisitor'. The reporter suggests that our children are victims, socially isolated children, controlled by their stubborn fundamental-Christian parents. Our names and living place are given allowing to identify us.” Watch the documentary here: http://www.spiegel.de/video/weltfremde-eltern-als-lehrer-beim-homeschooling-video-1240587.html http://www.spiegel.tv/ Source known to Observatory.
