Church Vandalised: "Evil" written on Altar
On August 12, the church at Buissenal in Frasnes-lez-Anvaing, Belgium, was vandalised. The perpetrator(s) broke into the church and destroyed the stained glass windows. The perpetrators used some of the broken candles to 'write' the word 'EVIL' on the altar. Two gravestones in the cemetery were also defaced.
‘It's a disgrace,’ says Carine de Saint-Martin (MR), the borough's mayor. ‘The cemeteries at Oeudeghien and Montrœul-au-Bois have also recently been vandalised. We wonder if it's not the same person or persons. The municipality of Frasnes-lez-Anvaing has lodged a complaint against a person unknown. It will of course be difficult to identify the perpetrator(s) unless the neighbours have witnessed malicious acts. We are going to take a cautious approach and step up security around religious buildings in the area. In particular, the police are carrying out patrols with a view to possibly finding the perpetrator(s)’.
