Tabernacle forced, hosts stolen

On the night of 2 November, the church of Saint Ame in Herlies was desecrated. The tabernacle was forced open and hosts were stolen. A mass of reparation was held.
The back door of the church, that of the sacristy, was broken. "The thieves made off with a chalice, a ciboire and other objects essential to the worship service. What is even more worrying is that they managed to get into the tabernacle and stole the consecrated hosts that were in the cibories, while scattering the other hosts, thus committing an unacceptable desecration," explained a local.
Father Mickael David, the parish priest, has filed a complaint and the gendarmerie are now investigating. This act of vandalism and desecration has sent shockwaves through the Herlies community. He, however, tends to think that it was motivated purely by malice.
