Sacrilegious theft and desecration

Country: Italy

Date of incident: December 22, 2024

On December 22 thieves broke into the tabernacle of the church of Miglierina in Viareggio using a drill and a crowbar and stole the consecrated hosts, leaving the pyxes inside. Several liturgical objects and some personal belongings were also stolen. The parish priest does not exclude a Satanic motive.

The closed church was broken into in the afternoon and the hosts were forcibly stolen from the open tabernacle. First with a drill, then with a crowbar. Only the consecrated hosts were stolen from the pyxes, which remained inside. They then moved to the rectory, where they stole several chalices and other sacred objects, and then to the living area, where they broke down another door with a cleaver and stole a laptop and various jewellery.

Investigators suspect that the stolen hosts from pyx are a sign of robbery linked to a secret market in sacred objects associated with black masses and satanic rites. The parish priest Don Daniele said:  "This is a blow to the heart of the rite".  The parish is considering installing security cameras around the church.
