Two nativity scenes vandalised in Ostiano

Country: Italy

Date of incident: December 30, 2024

During the night of 30 to 31 December, someone destroyed two nativity scenes in the town centre of Ostiano and in the churchyard. The statues of the infant Jesus, the sheep and Mary were overturned and the statue of Saint Joseph was destroyed.

An act of incivility has deeply affected the community of Ostia and has also caused great indignation on social media for an act that offends the religious feelings of many people.

"Like every year, we put up the crib, we try to put up one of the symbols of Christian Christmas and it always hurts to see someone destroy it," said Serafino Moglia, president of the Ostiano Hobby Group, with regret. "Even the crib set up in the churchyard has been knocked over, as has happened in many towns in our area in recent days".
