Church targeted in sacrilegious theft
Unknown perpetrators have broken into the tabernacle and stolen the vessel containing the consecrated hosts from the Catholic Church of the Blessed Sacrament in Trento.
The theft occurred on the night of 4–5 January 2025. The stolen vessel held the consecrated hosts, which are of central religious significance in Catholic belief, making the act particularly sensitive for the local Christian community.
Archbishop Lauro Tisi announced that a Mass of reparation would be celebrated at the church following the incident. It remains unclear whether the act was carried out by an individual or an organised group.
The incident follows a similar attack in Trento in late November, when an Orthodox church was reportedly robbed and vandalised, suggesting a possible pattern of attacks on Christian sites in the area (OIDAC reported)
It's the second time in as many weeks that the city of Trento has witnessed this kind of attack on Christian holy sites - on 29 November the Orthodox church in Vicolo San Marco was robbed and vandalised, as reported by OIDAC.
