Sacred Objects Targeted in Catholic Church in Schleiden-Gemünd
Unknown perpetrators robbed and vandalised a Catholic church in Schleiden-Gemünd, deliberately targeting religious objects, including a gilded cross and a baptismal font. Water was removed from the font and poured onto the floor.
The incident occurred between 9 and 10 January, when unknown individuals forced entry into the Catholic church on Aachener Straße. Behind the altar, the perpetrators removed and stole a gilded cross that had been fixed in place. Additional acts inside the church further affected religious objects: a crown of the Three Kings was damaged, and water from a baptismal font and poured onto the floor. These actions indicate direct interference with objects of religious significance.
In addition, other property inside the church was damaged, including a decorated Christmas tree and ornaments. Police have opened an investigation, and the criminal police are working to identify those responsible.
