Vandals Destroy Two Crosses in Zawiercie
Unknown perpetrators vandalised two roadside crosses in Zawiercie County, Poland, overnight, prompting a call for an expiatory service by Bishop Artur Ważny. In one incident a wooden roadside cross was broken and the figure of Christ on it destroyed and in the other a cross was disfigured and painted pink.
On the night of July 26–27, vandals damaged two religious symbols in Zawiercie County. The first incident took place in Podzamcze (parish of Ogrodzieniec), where a wooden roadside cross was broken and the figure of Christ on it was also destroyed. In the same timeframe, a second cross on Góra Rzędowa in Zawiercie-Bzów was disfigured and painted pink. Police are investigating both cases separately, treating them as acts of property destruction and insults to religious feelings.
Bishop Artur Ważny of Sosnowiec expressed deep concern and invited the faithful to participate in a special expiatory service scheduled for August 1 in Ogrodzieniec.
