Armed Robbery Attempted During Mass
A masked gunman stormed into the chapel of the Dominican Sisters' institute in Sant'Anastasia, near Naples, during Mass. He attempted to rob the congregation and fired a blank shot into the air.
At 8:00 a.m. on 27 July 2025, a masked man dressed in black entered the chapel of the Dominican Sisters’ institute in Sant’Anastasia during Mass and attempted to rob the congregation, which included nuns and lay worshippers. He shouted demands and fired a blank round into the air before fleeing the scene. No one was harmed.
The Naples police began an investigation and reviewed surveillance footage to identify the perpetrator. Local authorities condemned the incident and pledged to improve security in places of worship. The prefect of Naples emphasised that it was a "cowardly act that cannot fail to be strongly condemned, especially given the location where it occurred: inside the chapel of the Dominican Sisters, a place that symbolises peace, reflection, and community gathering."
