Desecration and Theft of Consecrated Hosts from Spanish Parish

Country: Spain

Date of incident: December 26, 2017

During the night between 26th to 27th of December the parish church of San Francisco de Sales in Parla, in the Community of Madrid, was desecrated when the tabernacle containing consecrated hosts was stolen.

The news spread rapidly among faithful on social media and the parishioners were especially upset because the theft and desecration occurred “in the midst of the joy of Christmas." The bishop of the Diocese of Getafe presided over a public reparation for the desecration in which parishioners were urged to pray both to the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus and for the thieves.

It was the second desecration of a Catholic church in the Community of Madrid in less than a week.
