Animosity Against Catholics Aggravating in Spain
The website Libertad Digital reported on March 11, 2011 that animosity against Christians and in particular Catholics is aggravating in Spain. Journalist Javier Lozano lists incidents Christians recently witnessed from the temporary close of the chapel at University of Barcelona due to violence and intolerance to the cancellation of a lecture by Cardenal Rouco Varela because of demonstrations and the lack of security to deter anti-Christians activists.
Lozano pointed out the Federal Government law project on religious freedom contemplates the removal of crucifixes from schools, hospitals and public places. This legal trend goes along with the abortion law, and the euthanasia law project supported by Spanish officials. These are not isolated facts, according to Lozano. The publisher Akal released a manual on Ethic Civic Education for 15-16 years old youth which exhalts Marxism and mocks religious beliefs, especially Catholics. Lozano also mentions other facts: the chapel inside the Valle the los Caidos, a historical icon in Madrid, has been closed for mass by the government, forcing the Benedict priests to celebrate mass outside the area, and the Zapatero´s government, unlike other European countries, has not supported the condemnation of attacks against Christians in third countries in joint voice with the European institutions.
