Arson Attack at Notre-Dame Church in Saint-Dizier
A 20-year-old man has been arrested for attempting to start fires inside Notre-Dame church in Saint-Dizier. Thankfully, the organist was able to extinguish the fires before they could spread further. This is the fourth incident at the church in the last two years, raising safety concerns among the local community.
On 20 August 2025, the police responded to reports of fires inside Notre-Dame Church in Saint-Dizier, where the organist had extinguished two small blazes. A young man with distinctive features was seen near the church and was later identified through police records as the suspect. Initially denying any involvement, he eventually confessed, but offered no motive.
He is due to appear before the Chaumont criminal court under emergency procedures. According to the parish priest, this is the fourth incident at the church in the last two years, prompting concern from the parish priest and local officials.
