Methodist Church Vandalised Twice, Christian Youth Services Relocated
The interior of the Methodist church in Birkenhead was vandalised during two break-ins, resulting in extensive damage to church property. Fire extinguishers were maliciously discharged, and various items were intentionally destroyed, prompting a police investigation and the temporary relocation of youth activities.
Between October 5 and 13, 2025, Charing Cross Methodist Church—also known as Church @ The Cross Birkenhead—was broken into twice, resulting in smashed windows, destroyed jumble sale items, maliciously discharged fire extinguishers, and the theft of a wheelchair. The building housed the Lighthouse Youth Club, a volunteer-run Christian initiative supporting children with special educational needs.
Denise Edwards, a church youth worker, stated, “They’ve smashed every window in the building. They’ve taken a baseball bat to all the china and all the crockery and glasses.” Merseyside Police confirmed forced entry and significant damage, and reported that forensic and CCTV investigations were underway. The club relocated its activities to a second church site to prevent further incidents. No suspects or motives were identified.
