The damage was discovered by parishioners arriving for morning mass.

Mayor Careri condemned the act as “a gesture that offends the culture, the spirituality and the history of our country,” describing it as a symbolic attack on the community’s identity and values. The Carabinieri launched an investigation, reviewing surveillance footage from the area. Local authorities emphasized that the incident was not an isolated prank but part of a broader pattern of disrespect toward religious and cultural heritage.
