Suspected Arson At Community Centre of St. Otto in Greifswald
Three garbage bins were set on fire at the Catholic parish community centre of St. Otto in Greifswald, Germany, damaging part of the building’s façade. The police are investigating the suspected arson.
Around 11 p.m. on October 26, 2025, several trash cans located at the community center of St. Otto Catholic Parish in Greifswald caught fire. Residents immediately called emergency services, and the fire brigade arrived promptly. The local police were also alerted.
The flames caused damage to three trash bins and partially affected the facade of the parish building. Firefighters successfully contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to the rectory or other structures. The police classified the incident as property damage by fire and are investigating under suspicion of arson.
Pastor and Provost Frank Hoffmann stated: "We were very lucky and had a guardian angel that allowed the fire to be noticed quickly. It could have turned into a major fire at our community center."
