Another Enigmatic Burned Circle Appeared Outside Galician Church
Another burned circle was found outside a church in Galicia, prompting police involvement. The unusual nature of the marking caused concern among parishioners and follows a similar incident at another nearby church.
On October 15, 2025, a blackened circular mark burned into the stone pavement was discovered in front of the Church of Santa María de Darbo in Cangas, Galicia. The symbol resembled another similar circle found days earlier at the Church of San Martiño in Moaña.
The presence of the symbol caused unease among local residents and parish members. The sacristan, Mª Carmen Sá, reported the mark to local authorities, stating: “It was frightening, I didn’t dare walk past it.” Police and Civil Guard documented the incident, and municipal emergency workers attempted to remove the residue using water, detergent, and eventually scrapers.
Investigators suspected the circles were created at night using adhesive or flammable paste ignited on site. The parish priest requested the symbol be removed before evening mass and planned a blessing of the area to reassure parishioners. Authorities considered whether the act constituted damage to protected cultural heritage, as both churches are part of historic ensembles. No suspects had been identified at the time of reporting.
