A fire broke out at the Oratory of Saints Sebastiano and Fabiano, known as the Oratory of the Whites, in Taggia, Italy, damaging the entrance of the historic Christian site affiliated with the Confraternity of the Gonfalone. The incident occurred in the afternoon and was traced to a curtain near the main door.
Mayor Mario Conio described the incident stating, “A fire that could have had very serious consequences, probably of a deliberate nature, struck the Oratory of the Whites.” He added, “The city is wounded, but it will respond with unity and respect.” Local citizens alerted emergency services upon seeing smoke, enabling a rapid response. The incident followed prior minor thefts reported by the Confraternity, which had filed a formal complaint. The site, dating back to the 16th century, remains under investigation by law enforcement for technical verification of the fire’s origin.
