Pro-Palestinian Protest Disrupted Brussels Christmas Market Opening
The launch of Brussels’ Winter Wonders Christmas market was interrupted when demonstrators set off smoke bombs, waved Palestinian flags, and unsettled families.
The opening ceremony of the Winter Wonders Christmas market at Place de la Bourse in Brussels was disrupted by a pro-Palestinian protest on Friday evening. Protesters reportedly identifying as Muslims entered the market area, waving Palestinian flags, carrying torches and drums, and igniting smoke bombs among the Christmas stalls. Witnesses described families leaving the square in fear and children being visibly frightened and confused.
Several politicians have condemned the incident. Police restored order without reports of injuries or arrests, and organisers expressed disappointment, stressing that the market was intended as a community space for joy and togetherness.
