Anti-Christian Graffiti Targets the Basilica of Carmine in Florence
In Florence, black spray-painted graffiti stating “The only church that enlightens is the one that burns” and featuring the anarchist circled “A” appeared on the construction coverings of the Carmine Basilica.
The act was reported to law enforcement by Camilla Speranza, spokesperson for the Santo Spirito committee, who said she had filed a complaint with the Carabinieri and confirmed the case was referred to Digos. Florence’s mayor, Sara Funaro, announced on X: “We acted together with law enforcement, whom we thank for their prompt intervention, and the writings will be removed as soon as possible.” Authorities treated the incident as vandalism against one of the city’s most significant religious landmarks.
