Church in Bromyard Cuts Hours After Vandalism and Disorder

Country: United Kingdom

Date of incident: October 10, 2025

Incidents of vandalism and disruptive behavior forced St Peter’s Church in Bromyard to close early.

St Peter’s Church in Bromyard, a historic market town parish, limited its opening hours after repeated acts of vandalism and disorder inside the building. Reverend Phillip Miller confirmed that toys were defaced, items were thrown around, and individuals were “racing around inside and outside” the church, with local young people believed to be involved. He described the behavior as “very upsetting for those who work to keep the place clean and tidy, prepare for services, make flower arrangements and, indeed, for visitors”. The church, which has stood for a thousand years as a site for baptisms, marriages, funerals, and worship, worked with authorities to ensure safety and preserve its role as “a sacred space, a holy place for peace and for prayer”.
