Statue Profanation in Saint-Denis

An act of profanation targeting a religious statue was reported in Saint-Denis, leading to police arrests shortly afterwards. The perpetrators had also posted the act on social media.

The events took place in Saint-Denis, at the Church of Notre-Dame de la Délivrance, on the evening of Monday 10 March 2025. A statue representing the Virgin Mary was damaged and subjected to acts described as profanation.

Two minors were arrested and questioned in police custody at the Malartic Street police station as part of the investigation. At least one suspect was identified through videos of the acts that had been posted by the perpetrators themselves on social media.

The Diocese of La Réunion filed a formal complaint.
