Vandalism of Bertrix Cross in Perigueux
A Christian cross in Périgueux, France, was vandalised and almost completely destroyed in a targeted attack, promoting police investigation.
During the night of 30 September to 1 October 2025, the Bertrix Cross, a Calvary located along the road to Lyon in Périgueux, Dordogne, was deliberately vandalised by unknown individuals.
The upper section of the cross was forcibly detached from its base and found on the ground the following morning. Witnesses reported seeing several individuals interacting with the structure the night before, including one person hanging from the cross before it collapsed.
The incident caused damage to a religious monument recognised as part of the local heritage, leading authorities to open an investigation to identify those responsible. The cross was later restored by municipal services, preserving key original elements.
